Glass Of Beer, Beer, Glass, Alcohol, Drink, BeverageEveryone knows that going out can sometimes be really expensive, whether you’re looking to do something with friends or family. Luckily for residents of Charlotte, there are plenty of fun and free activities both in the city and the surrounding area. From outdoor adventures to kid-friendly activities, there’s a lot to choose from. We’ve listed five of our top favorite things to do for free in Charlotte to give you a taste of what’s available.

Beer Tours

Several breweries in Charlotte offer free tours of their facilities, which make for an enjoyable afternoon for beer lovers. NoDa Brewing Company hosts a free 45-minute tour on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. and is one of the most popular brewery tours thanks to the company’s recent move to a larger, updated facility.

If you’ve already taken the NoDa tour, you can also check out the free weekly tours at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Triple C Brewing Company, and Birdsong Brewing Company. All have beer to purchase if you choose, but the tour is free, and there’s no pressure to buy anything.

Spraygrounds

During the hot summer months, one of the best ways to get your kids to burn off some energy while staying cool is to head to one of the local spraygrounds. One of the most popular is located at the Birkdale Village Shops, where kiddos can run around in the arcing water while parents watch and chat on the shaded benches.

If that’s too busy, head over to Latta Park, where the spray pad is located close to a nearby playground for an afternoon of fun. There’s a beautiful view of the Charlotte skyline from this cozy neighborhood park, and it makes a great place to meet up for a no-cost playdate.

Mint Museum

This quirky museum is located in Uptown and offers free admission from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights. Enjoy a variety of galleries, from sculptural to textile to photography created by both local and international artists. The Mint Museum Uptown also plays host to a number of rotating exhibitions such as the Body Embellishment exhibit which celebrate avant-garde body art.

Party in the Park

Party in the Park is a summer series hosted at the Romare Bearden Park. Every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m., kick back and enjoy local artists. Genres range from cover bands to jazz to rock, and the event is kid friendly. Make sure that you bring a blanket or some chairs to sit on, as there’s no available seating. It’s the perfect place to bring family for a picnic or meet some new friends!

Puckett’s Farm Equipment

One of the most interesting free open-mic nights is held on Mondays at Puckett’s Farm Equipment, a bar located at 2740 West Sugar Creek Road. Easily one of the best live music venues in Charlotte, it’s the place to go for concerts, but the open-mic night is a great way to get a scope on local talent and enjoy a night out with no cover. You can, of course, purchase drinks at the bar, but the event is free.

Charlotte has lots of options for residents and visitors who are watching their budgets, and these five examples are just a small sample of what’s available.
