Barbecue, Barbeque, Bbq, Beef, Charbroiled, Fire, FlamePlaza Midwest is a quaint, laid-back community northeast of Uptown Charlotte. While many out-of-towners don’t think of it as the place to go out for dinner, it has some spectacular restaurants. You can find almost anything to eat in this neighborhood, from incredible sandwiches to breakfast, Mexican, and seafood. Here are some of the best meals in Plaza Midwood and where you can get them.

Totopos

Comida on Thomas Avenue is a Mexican place where you can get authentic Mexican food, not the Americanized version of it. The Totopos y Pajarito salsa is a must try at Comida. The chewy chips and cherry tomato salsa are made in house, and its delicious combination of flavors is unlike anything you’ll get around the city. The chips are crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle, and the salsa has just the right amount of kick.

Barbecue

The best place to get barbecue in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood is at Midwood Smokehouse. This restaurant serves everything from beef brisket to hickory-smoked pork and pulled chicken. The mix of old-school barbecue with new and innovative dishes is sure to please everyone’s tastes. To top off your barbecue, you can get an Eastern North Carolina vinegar-based sauce or a South Caroline mustard, and the portions are large so that you won’t leave hungry. If you have a large appetite, try the Well-Fed combo platter, and you’ll get a little of everything, including the burnt ends.

Sandwiches

If you are looking for a great sandwich, head to Common Market. This place offers some of the best sandwiches in town, and the menu includes some unique flavor combinations. Make sure to try the Pimento Deluxe or the Hot Mama. The Pimento Deluxe is a panini with pimento cheese, jalapenos, bacon, and diced tomatoes, while the Hot Mama has Havarti cheese, red onion, red bell pepper, tomato, and baby spinach. You can sit out on the front patio and eat your sandwich while enjoying a beer or some wine, and people watch from this great location. Common Market sits on Commonwealth Avenue.

Southern Comfort Food

When you want some good old southern comfort food, Dish is the place to go for lunch or dinner. This place has traditional southern meals, like shrimp and grits, chicken and dumplings, and fried green tomatoes. The mashed sweet potatoes smell wonderful, and the chicken and dumplings come with your choice of sides, making this a perfect dish if you’re hungry. You can get it with a biscuit, a deviled egg, or a side of collard greens. You can also try the meatloaf, which has a little bit of a kick that adds to the flavor. Dish’s claim to fame is a recent spot on Food Network’s Diner’s Drive In’s and Dive’s.

Whether you want traditional southern food, some barbecue, or just a great sandwich, you’ll find an eatery in Plaza Midwood to satisfy your cravings. Try one of these places, and you can get delicious food done right.
