Wedding, Reception, Park, City, Outdoor, Arch, PergolaWhile long vacations are nice, many couples and families can’t manage a longer stay, whether it’s because of school, work, or other obligations. Mini vacations are a great way to recharge, re-center, and relax before heading back into daily life, without the extended absence. Luckily for residents of Charlotte, there are lots of destinations near the city that make the perfect mini vacation spot. We’ve listed our favorite so you can start planning your next mini vacation today.

The Swag

Located in Waynesville, The Swag is an all-inclusive resort that is a popular destination for couples and families to get away from the bustle of everyday life. Enjoy stunning vistas and ultra-relaxing accommodations in the mountains. The on-site restaurant serves up fantastic food and there are plenty of outdoor activities around the area, like hiking and relaxing in the fresh air.

Biltmore Estate

Biltmore Estate is a must-visit for both residents and visitors to North Carolina. The estate today covers 8,000 acres and is the largest privately owned residence in the United States, though it is currently unoccupied and open to the public for tours. The estate is two hours from Charlotte, perfect for a quick weekend getaway that still manages to feel like a real vacation.

While there are plenty of hotel and AirBNB options in nearby Asheville, for a truly luxurious stay, consider staying at the Inn on Biltmore Estate. Created with the aesthetics of the main mansion in mind, the hotel also incorporates stylish minimalism and sleekness. In addition, there’s easy access to the top-of-the-line restaurants on the property, plus the delicious wines made at the on-property vineyards.

Village Inns of Blowing Rock

This spread of three different inns located in the North Carolina countryside is an excellent and affordable getaway. Stays at the inn include a complimentary breakfast plus free wine and snacks in the evenings. Whether you choose to stay in the traditional inn or one of the private cottages, there’s a ton of outdoor activities to choose from, not to mention nearby spas and shopping.

Fuquay Mineral Spring Inn and Garden

The Fuquay Mineral Spring Inn and Garden is a bed and breakfast located in Fuquay Varina. This destination has lush gardens and an intimate, romantic setting. The inn is located close to Raven Rock State Park, but visitors can also enjoy lounging on the property and taking in the beauty of the grounds and the inn.

Duke Mansion

Don’t want to go too far from Charlotte? Head to Duke Mansion, located in Charlotte, which is a historic mansion from the 19th century that has been restored to its former glory, with period-accurate furnishings and decor. While the mansion is located in Charlotte, its grounds are large enough to feel isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city. The mansion has 20 individually decorated rooms for a bed and breakfast feel, and it’s located close enough to the city to be able to take a quick walk to a local restaurant or shop.

These five destinations are all wonderful choices for a weekend getaway to get some rest and relaxation into your busy schedule without driving too far from Charlotte.
