When the IIHS released their list of the 2013 Top Safety Pick Vehicles, only 20 vehicles in the industry received the exclusive Top Safety Pick+ Award.  Of the 20 vehicles that were named as 2013 Top Safety Pick+ models, Honda made the list 4 times.  Honda Motor Company had the most winners on the Top Safety Pick+ list, and they are on Charlotte Honda lots.

How Does a Vehicle Earn Top Safety+ Status?

Every year, the IIHS purchases vehicles that have been released for the current year they are testing.  Cars that are made available in 2013 were tested, even 2014 models can be tested if they rollout in 2013.  Every vehicle that is tested, must endure 5 critical crash test scenarios: moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, rollover, and rear tests.  To be named as a Top Safety Pick Plus, the vehicle must achieve “good” ratings in 4 out of the 5 tests, but they must receive at least an “acceptable” rating in the small overlap front test.
