Whitewater Way

If you want to enjoy a different type of experience on your winter drive, take a trip along Whitewater Way. The atmosphere is similar to a rainforest, with lush green plant life throughout the year. There are also a variety of waterfalls along the drive, and if the weather gets cold enough, the water may even be frozen. The name of the road is after Whitewater Falls, which is the highest waterfall on the east side of the Rocky Mountains. Throughout your trip on this gorgeous drive, you’ll pass through both Gorges State Park and the Nantahala National Forest.

Uwharrie Mountains and National Forest

Colonial Heritage Byway

Those who enjoy learning more about history will love taking a drive along the Colonial Heritage Byway.
