When driving in a public parking area, it is important for drivers to remain alert and drive with patience. Parking lots can be very busy places with many drivers focused only on scoring the closest spot. Our Charlotte Honda service center team has seen the end result of damage caused by parking lot accidents.

When entering a busy parking lot, remember to stay on alert for the pedestrians in the area. People exiting their vehicles or heading out into the parking lot may not be paying attention to the vehicles on the road. Be sure to drive slowly and stop completely in order to give pedestrians the right of way. Obey traffic signs in the parking lot especially where crosswalks are present.

If your vehicle is not properly qualified for disabilities, don’t take up spaces marked for handicapped drivers no matter how long you will take to run your errand. When you do pull into a space, be sure to stay within the lines. You want to reduce the risk that you will cause damage to another vehicle when you open your door and want to make sure that your vehicle is equally safe from such damage.

In large parking areas, you may need to remember where you parked. Consider adding a note to yourself in your mobile phone that will help you remember where you parked. If you are exiting a location after dark, make sure you are alert as you walk through the parking lot for your own safety. In the event you have a bad feeling in a dark parking lot, follow your instincts and find someone trustworthy to accompany to your vehicle like a security guard or a co-worker.
