If you are getting ready to pick your car up from the body shop, or you plan on future repairs, make sure you know what to look out for.  Honda North Carolina has a guide to help you make sure the body shop did their job properly.  Make sure your car is back to new again before you leave the parking lot.

Before You Drop Off Your Car

Before you take your car to a body shop, make sure you are working with a shop that is qualified and worthy of your business.  A body shop that is clean, insured and staffed with I-CAR and ASE technicians is the only place that should be completing repairs on your vehicle.  Choosing the right shop will prevent many of the following mistakes.

Picking Up Your Car from the Body Shop

You should be in control of the process when you pick up your car, and knowing what to look for will help you identify problems before you leave.

  • Make sure the car is clean on the inside and out.  A car has not been washed will hide body work and paint mistakes.  Also, the inside should be free of body shop dust, debris and footprints.
  • Smell your car for cigarette smoke.  Nonsmokers can identify the unfamiliar smell right away.  Your car should never smell like cigarette smoke if you don’t smoke in it.  If the smoke smell is in your car, make sure the shop pays the expense associated with removing the smell from your interior.
  • Look at the car in the sunlight to make sure the color was matched properly.  Looking at your car inside may not reveal mismatched paint.
  • Inspect door doorjambs and the trim on your car for any signs of overspray.
  • Inspect the car to ensure that all of the parts were installed properly.
  • Look at the paint for any runs, bubbles, and fish eyes in the paint.  Fish eyes are small craters in the paint.
