Yiasou Greek Festival

For nearly four decades, the Yiasou Greek Festival has been an annual event that takes place in early September. It’s always one of the most highly anticipated festivals in the area, with plenty of fun activities for the family. Admission is $3 for adults, and kids ages 12 and under get in free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. It’s hosted by the parishioners of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at the church grounds, on 600 East Boulevard.

You can sample authentic Greek foods and pastries, watch the live music and dancing shows, and shop for handmade goodies. This exciting four-day event is a great way to learn more about Greek culture.

Festival in the Park

In 1964, Mr. Grant Whitney started the Festival in the Park as a way for locals to come together and enjoy live music and good food. Over the past 51 years, the annual event has grown to include a massive local art show and food trucks that serve up favorites across the park. The activities for kids include face painting and making crafts.

The festival takes place each year at Freedom Park in late September. At least 80,000 people attend it annually, and over the past few years the attendance has grown to more than 120,000 people per year. The cost for admission is $10 per car, and the proceeds go towards local schools.

The Great Pumpkin Fest

If you’re looking for something to do with your kids this fall, be sure to check out The Great Pumpkin Fest, held at Carowinds Amusement Park. The area known as Planet Snoopy becomes the ultimate spot for fall festivities. In addition to shows, there are activities such as the hay bale maze, trick-or-treating, and the petting zoo. You can even go to the pumpkin patch to pick out your own pumpkin. The festival is open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It starts in mid-September and runs until the end of October.

Charlotte School Fair

The Charlotte School Fair takes place in early October and is the perfect activity for families with younger kids. While you’re there, you can talk to representatives of both private and public schools in the Charlotte area, allowing you to learn about and become more involved in local education initiatives. The event also hosts food trucks and story time, offers free admission to nearby museums, and has plenty of giveaways. Visit the Charlotte School Fair at the Levine Museum of the New South on 7th Street on October 1.

Fall is a favorite season for many people throughout the country. Thankfully, there are plenty of fun and exciting activities this year for residents and visitors of the Charlotte area.
