Whether you want to sit on the beach and enjoy the sun and surf, or you prefer to add some adventure to your trip, here are some perfect spring destinations you can drive to from Charlotte.

1. Tybee Island

Tybee Island is a barrier island right off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. It takes a little more than four hours to drive there from Charlotte, but it is well worth the time in the car. Also known as Savannah Beach, this area has something for everyone. There are three miles of beach on the island, with salt marshes that are home to birds and unique wildlife. You can fish from the shore or head out on a deep-sea fishing charter, or take a cruise to see the dolphins or the sunset. There are numerous dining options on Tybee Island with all kinds of cuisine offered, and accommodations ranging from simple motels to elegant beach homes.

2. Boone

Head to Boone, North Carolina, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, for a vacation filled with fresh air and adventure. This area has something to offer every kind of adventurer, whether they want to push the limits on a whitewater rafting ride or just enjoy paddling a canoe. Boone is also the place to go for fly fishing, or you can spend the day exploring the mountains on a hike. If you prefer something a little more cultural, the downtown area has historic buildings to explore and a vibrant art scene. It is only about a two-hour drive from Charlotte, making this a great choice for a spring getaway.

3. Lake Gaston

While Lake Gaston has an exciting summer scene, it is also a fun place to visit in the spring. It is not as busy this time of year, but the fishing is great and there are plenty of trails in the area for hikers of all levels. Lake Gaston has 350 miles of shoreline with all kinds of water sports, from wake surfing to boating to sailing. There are several public boat ramps, so you can bring your own boat and enjoy a day out on the water or rent a boat for the week. When you get hungry, try one of the many lakeside dining options or head into town for shopping and eating. Lake Gaston is only about a three-hour drive from Charlotte, and it is one of the cleanest lakes in the area.

4. Bryson City

It only takes about three hours to get to Bryson City, where you can explore the Smoky Mountains. Rent a cabin for the week and spend your days hiking and biking in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

No matter how you like to spend your grownup time, you can easily get to a spot from Charlotte where you can spend your vacation doing what you love.
