Petrol Gasoline Diesel Gas Automotive PricSummer travelers will be excited to hear the good news at the pump this year: gas prices are predicted to be the lowest in six years. Your Stallings area Honda is looking forward to summer as much as you are! Bring on the road-trips, without draining your wallet. While drivers already pay around one dollar less per gallon than they did a year ago, the U.S. Energy Information Administration predicted gas prices would continue to fall until September. U.S. consumption will rise 1.6% this summer, the EIA further stated, as this is the season when American drivers generally do most of their traveling.

How low can They Go?

On average, a gallon of regular gas will cost $2.45. Prices will be lower on the Gulf Coast, where the average should fall to $2.25. West Coast drivers are still expected to pay the most at $2.82 per gallon. The experts at AAA put out a similar statement in April, confirming that gas prices will likely fall this summer. Some experts predict prices could drop to the $2.00 range in some areas.

Stretch your gas dollar even further.

Despite lower prices, we all still want to save even more on fuel. A few simple tricks and tips can improve your gas mileage and fuel bill:

  • Drive more efficiently. Speeding, and rapid acceleration wastes gas. Efficient driving can lower your gas mileage around 30% at highway speeds.
  • Keep tires properly inflated. Not only are properly inflated tires safer, they last longer, and can actually affect your gas mileage. Even at a slight 1-psi drop in tire pressure, fuel economy can lower by nearly 0.4%, the U.S. Department of Energy states. Always go by your car’s recommended pressure. A Honda with tires under-inflated by 6 psi suffers a 5% loss in fuel economy.
  • Carpool. Cut your weekly fuel costs in half plus save wear and tear on your car if you ride with other commuters. Take advantage of High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, which are usually less congested, improving your gas mileage.
  • Make sure your vehicle is up-to-date on service and recommended maintenance. A vehicle in good condition uses less gas.

If the prediction for cheaper fuel is true, drivers will be spending more time on the road. Your Honda service team encourages you to stop by the shop before you head out of time. We want to make sure your car is ready for the drive.
