Navigation, Car, Drive, Road, Gps, Transport, TravelFinally, summer is here. It is road-trip time. Families across the country are getting ready to hit the road and just get away from it all. Matthews Honda wants to make sure your car is ready for the journey. A pre-trip checkup could make all the difference in arriving at your destination without any mechanical issues. We put together this handy list of road trip tips to make sure that you have a great one!

Before You Go

Map It!

Do not rely solely on maps or navigation systems. If you are using a GPS, have a paper printout, just in case you have technical difficulties. Of course, always make sure that you have a good old paper map. Yes, a paper map! You can still find them at rest areas, gas stations, and convenience stores. Mapping your way ensures you are covered and can get to your destination without any major navigational setbacks.

Learn Your Route

Do a little research before your trip. Know where things are on your chosen route (and maybe an alternate) such as rest stops, 24-hour gas stations, familiar restaurants, and maybe some landmarks of interest. If time allows, see some sights along the way.

Don’t Wait for Auto Check-up

Safeguard your road trip (and your schedule) by letting our service department perform the inspection a week or two before your trip. Waiting until the day before you depart for your trip is not a good idea. If there is a problem, your car could need a few days in the shop. A last-minute repair could force you to delay your trip, or worse, having to rent a car at the last minute, and that can certainly throw a kink in your budget! Our mechanic will check everything from tires and brakes, hoses and belts, to fluid levels and to make sure your car is ready for the road.

Prepare for the Worst

No matter how much vehicle maintenance is done before a trip, there is no guarantee that you will not have any trouble out on the road. Keep an emergency car kit in your vehicle. If you have roadside assistance, have the emergency contact number with you. Don’t forget a spare key. Nothing is worse than losing your key or locking it in the car when you are so far from home

Few things spoil a family vacation more quickly than car trouble far from home. Your friends at Matthews Honda will ensure that your car is ready for the long road-trip ahead!
